 College Project:

As part of BCFE's games design course I worked as part of a team where we developed a first person detective horror game set in a sprawling american metropolis where the player investigates various cases linked to a murder.

Everyone on the team wore many different hats when it came to making this game, I mainly worked on the coding of the game however I also helped out with level deisgn, UI design and 3D Modelling

The Making of the game

The idea for this game was brought out from a conversation with the other team members with all of us wanting to tackle making a horror game for the year,

this game would also act as the first big team project that I was a part of as previously in BCFE it was smaller teams or individual work.

Everyone on the team put in a lot of effort where they could so we all ended up taking responsibility for a lot of different aspects of the game so I gained a lot of valuable experience as a game developer

As this was the first big project that we were a part of as a team we wanted to be as organised as possible so we used Trello to help manage the week-to-week tasks that we had set out for the game and used Google Drive to update the game version.

Note System fixed.gif

I coded in a clues system into the game that would allow the players to piece together the case and solve it or fail it should they gather incorrect information

I coded in the character controller along with physics-based interactions for both the player and the ghost AI that would drain the players health and sanity

Object Pickup Compressed.gif

I coded in the sound system for the game using various different tags for the different ground types to make the experience as immersive as possible for the player with it playing a random sound from that tags array

The audio for this game was taken from the BBC sound library

I coded in events that would cause both damage and sanity loss for the player some of these events would also be triggered by the AI at random when the player is in the general area for these events.

Level Design

As part of the project I also worked on the first case level,

it is an old run-down asylum that the player explores to find clues.

UI Design

I also took on the responsibility of UI design for this project, I sketched a few different iterations of these designs and presented them to the rest of my team, and we chose these as the final versions of the player's case notebook (Made using Photoshop and Unity buttons) and sanity meter (Made using Aseprite)

These were the items that I modelled and textured in Blender and 3DSMax for use in this game
